First day of school at home

A special day for us today! The first 'official' day of school at home. It started rather leisurely. Little bee was up earlier but big bee was still asleep at 8:45 and I had to smile thinking how lovely it was that she can sleep in when needed. I'd wrapped up a couple of small things to mark the day, an alphablocks magazine, some pens and a swimming float for each of the bees. I picked the floats up for 50p at tesco the other day and as we plan to start swimming a bit more soon I thought it seemed apt.
There was one special joint present. A book called 'the day Amala didn't start school' :-) perfect for today! It was read through about 10 times. :-)
Last years first day of 'pre school at home' photo, and this years first day of big school photos! Attempted to get one of little bee but he was having none of it,  lol! (Will try again tomorrow!) Can't believe how much she's grown and changed in this year.
Busy with alpha blocks after a good old reading session. :-)
After lunch our home ed friends came round. It was there 'first day' too. Lovely to get together. The children had a whale of a time. They decorated flower/butterfly shaped boxes with paint and glitter glue and sequins.
Musical chairs, totally there idea!
We found some caterpillars outside our back door yesterday and when I mentioned to J about it she was keen to get a few to hatch off with her girls like before. We went outside armed with containers and scooped some up along with lots of leaves for them to eat. When we got back in we excitedly googled to see what they might be! Hmmmmm, *shudders* our initial excitement soon turned to horror when we realised they weren't butterflies, not even moths! Nope they are 'saw-flies' !!! Well they were quickly put back outside after neither of us fancied the children hatching flies in the house! Haha! There seemed several different types of sawfly but some of them look like fake wasps! Double eeeek! I hate wasps!
Well, me and J certainly learnt something today, and the children too of course!
A spot of maths after tea. (We don't do 9-3!) ;-)
Aaaaand! My clever girlie got this certificate on her maths program!
Phew! Busy first day.. :-)
