Mini zookeepers

With a plan to go to the zoo later we did a little 'zoo maths' this morning..
Followed by a sorting game. You had to sort farm animals/zoo animals/fruit/veg
I printed this for little bee but he wasn't all that interested. Big bee was though! Plan to write the words on the back of the cards and do it by words too.
Off to the zoo! With a frozen pond it was quite topical after yesterday's water experiment!
The children found sticks and found it fascinating to hit the ice. We discovered it was thinner in some places than others. We discussed why..
Up close and personal to the tigers! Complete with 'tiger faces' !
Frozen lake, the ducks were walking about on the ice!
Ooh scary!
We were very lucky. We were I think pretty much the only people in the whole zoo and we bumped into the zoo keeper at feeding time. She said we could follow her around and watch all the different animals being fed. It was fascinating! Lots of time for questions, really amazing experience which I'm sure in most zoos you would pay lots for. The children were zoo keepers for an afternoon! ;-)
Following the zoo keeper...
Really amazing day! Lots of lovely fresh air, fab scenery and wonderful company! :-)

Distilled water making

Some valentines card making this morning.. I think 3 were made but two were hidden. This is the one I was allowed to see!
And worksheets for little bee. (He wasn't bothered about doing the cards)
Next a science experiment. We made distilled water. Demonstrating how water evaporates and how it cools back to water again. We talked about the 3 states of water, (water, ice, steam)
The set up. No water in the bowl when we started, but this is where the distilled water ended up.
The distilled water!
A wordsearch with 'park' words. Plus words to learn cards.
A sensory 'lucky dip' we hid things and shut our eyes to use our other senses to guess what the items were.
Later big bee wanted to write a unicorn story.. I printed out some unicorn 'labels' which she wrote each section on. She then cut them out, stuck on a sheet of A4 paper and illustrated.
The progress so far!

Pasta parcel making

Today we made fresh pasta. I've never made before so was a learning lesson for me too!
The dough!
The filling, we had no recipe so just popped in some things we liked. Peas, spinach, mozzarella and cheddar. No fresh spinach so frozen had to suffice.
Whiz zed to a paste like consistency for the middles of pasta parcels.
Lots of circles being made
And then assembling the parcels
All done! (Leftovers at front) will use the green in a omelette for the bees tomorrow.
And cooked! Can't believe the size difference! Apparently all very yummy! (None for me as not gluten and dairy free.)

Train track building marathon

Zoo and chocolate making

Worksheets
And zoo time! A game where you create your own zoo, capture animals, breed, release to save species, collect coins and spend them. Fantastic app which is really educational and fun. I even find myself feeding the animals! ;-)
Chocolate making workshop!
The massive bundle of finished choc! This will last us all AGES!

Zoo craft

A fab create a safari scene book the bees got for christmas, you colour, cut out and assemble the animals the. With a piece of cardboard draw and make a backdrop.
I drew the design and big bee painted

Then round to our friends for a play!

And a bounce!
