Big bee was so excited about today, the day of her baking competition! With cookies all ready and her ingredients and method sheet in her little hands we set off. It was held at a local gluten free shop and there was a mini gluten free fair there too.
When we got there they registered her in and gave her a name badge. The minimum age was actually 6 so we told a little white lie as she's only a few months off. She was the youngest in her category, the next youngest was 7. There was a 6-10 year and 10 and over category.
There were a beautiful assortment of GF bakes entered. Was amazing to see.
Here is big bee proudly standing with hers!
Most of the contestants lined up, a handful arrived late so there were a few more. After photos and registration were done we went off to enjoy the GF fair.
There were several shops to look round too but the fair was lovely, only a handful of stalls but they were all GF. A wonderful aroma of sausages and bacon which normally would just mean you can't have those, today meant yes you could! They were even served up in GF buns or wraps. There were lots of things to sample which we did and a cooking demo too. Big bee LOVED trying the samples. She couldn't believe they were all GF. She particularly enjoyed an onion bhaji which is amusing as usually she picks onion out of everything. She loved this and was pleasantly surprised when I told her what it was!
At 2pm we went back upstairs for the winners to be announced. Each participant got called up for a certificate and had a round of applause. Big bee took it all in her stride!
At the end they were all called up and the winners announced. The winners had prizes and the runners up all had goodie bags. Big bee was just over the moon with her goodie bag! Bless her! So excited.
With her bag!
And certificate!
I didn't actually realise till we were home and i heard big bee tell nanny, 'I won nanny! I won the competition!' bless her, she thought she had as the goodie bag to her was like winning, and what with her round of applause she was on cloud nine! She did also say that 'we all won!'
Perhaps I should of done, i dont know, but I didn't correct her. She's a winner to me too!
She had such a lovely day and little bee enjoyed it too. Big bee declared it 'her special day'.
I asked little bee what he'd like to do for a special day and he said 'do building work with daddy'. He's not hard to please! He does love anything like that.
Lovely family day. :-)
